Bag-in-Box (BIB) aseptic filling machines fill a sterile inner bag placed inside an outer carton. Once the bag spout enters the filling head, steam sterilizes it again before filling begins. The filler uses either a flow meter or load cells to measure the required quantity, then seals and discharges the filled bag. The aseptic filling system includes bag pre-sterilization, filling, and cleaning in place (CIP), and handles sterile bags from 5 to 1000 kg. Bag size and required output determine the filler configuration, which can include multiple filling heads, large-capacity aseptic bags or cartons, and BIB packs in different sizes.

How They Work

After it has been sterilized, the beverage or other substance moves through a sterile transfer pipe to the Bag-in-Box filler. The spout of the bag goes into the filling head, where it is sterilized again with steam before the cap is taken off. The filler then removes the air from the bag or replaces it with nitrogen before pouring in the required quantity. The bag is weighed by load cells while the amount of material going into it is measured by a flow meter. After the bag receives the required amount, the filling head puts the cap back on the spout and sends the sealed bag out of the filler. The chamber stays closed during the entire cycle, so outside microorganisms cannot reach the sterilized product inside the bag.

Applications

Suitable for filling fruit and vegetable juices, juice concentrates, herbal tea concentrates, products with fruit pieces, jams, purées, oils, dairy products, and other liquid materials that need sterile packaging and extended storage.

Features
  • Control systems monitor the filling head movement, filling quantity, temperature, and cap removal to reduce the risk of damaging the bag or spout.
  • Bag-in-Box fillers control the fill quantity either by weighing each bag with load cells or by measuring the material flow through a flow meter.
  • Steam barriers protect the diverter valves and moving parts of the filling head during aseptic operation.
  • Equipped with a cleaning in place (CIP) cycle for cleaning the filling system after production.
  • The filling head is fitted at an angle so that the condensate can drain from the chamber rather than staying in it.
  • The inner bag protects the contents from light and oxygen; its material is biodegradable, and the outer carton can be recycled.
